Top-shelf tonewoods, top-drawer components

As do all Reverend guitars and basses, the Reeves Gabrels Spacehawk comprises only the finest tonewoods and components — materials you expect to find on boutique, custom-shop instruments costing considerably more. From its ultra-stable 3-piece korina neck and signature Railhammer pickups to its genuine Bigsby roller bridge and vibrato tailpiece, the Spacehawk is designed from the ground up for high performance. Even the parts you don’t see are top drawer, such as premium 10% control pots and polyester capacitors and a robust Pure Tone Technologies jack with custom 4-screw jack plate. Reverend uses high-grade korina (white limba) — coveted for its consistency and harmonic richness — for their guitar and bass bodies. For the Spacehawk, a slab of korina is chambered; routed out from the top to create the back and sides (leaving a “center block” to anchor the bridge) before being capped with a solid maple top. The korina/maple combination is highly resonant, a quality that is further enhanced by the Spacehawk’s semi-hollowbody construction.

Semi-hollow resonance, solidbody sustain

The Reeves Gabrels Spacehawk delivers the best of both worlds — the warmth and woody vibrancy of a semi-hollowbody, along with the sustain, punch, and pronounced attack of a solidbody. Although it handles like a solidbody, its ventless semi-hollow body imparts a liveliness to its tone that solidbody guitars typically lack. Although “ventless” may seem like an odd word choice more suited to household appliances, here we’re referring to a sealed body cavity without an F-hole or any other means of allowing the natural acoustic sound generated inside to escape. This, combined with the instrument’s korina/maple body construction, gives the Spacehawk a very unique tone — one that’s eminently sculptable, thanks to the instrument’s powerful and flexible electronics, which include unique Railhammer humbucking pickups that utilize rails under the wound strings and poles under the plain strings. This setup delivers tight lows and fat highs, optimizing punch and clarity throughout the frequency range to make your chord work sparkle and your solos plow through the thickest arrangements.
